Government officials made things worse while trying to understate the severity
The government officials and those in power tried to control the panic among the masses by assuring full control over the situation. Though it wasn’t and was known perfectly by the masses. This led to a mismatch in communication by the officials. The end result of this scenario was the loss of credibility of those who made such an assurance to the people.
In short, all those who were in power made the situation worse in an attempt to improve it. One of the factors why the flu was so widespread and took a lot of lives was this.
