A brilliant American-African actress known for portraying African women in leads. Born on August 16, 1958, Angela Evelyn Bassett is a producer, director, and actress. Though she was quite a famous name, she rose to stardom after starring in How Stella Got Her Groove Back.
In this romantic drama movie, Angella played the role of a mother named Stella Payne, who is a successful stockbroker. She falls in love with a Jamaican man 20 years younger than her during a vacation. Bassett was praised for her laudable work as Stella, winning two awards for the best actress and Outstanding Lead Actress in a Motion Picture.
