John Lennon’s Dorinish Island Sold For $40,607

The late John Lennon, a famed singer-songwriter, was among the wealthiest celebrities who could afford multiple islands. However, Lennon purchased the 19-acre Dorinish Island for his family. He also received permission to build a house on the island, but he never got around to doing so.

Later, Lennon quit the idea to live on the island and offered it to Sid Rawle (King of the Hippies), who lived there until 1972. In December 1980, when he passed away, his wife Yoko Ono sold this island for $40,607 and donated the money to an Irish orphanage. The island, which is known as Beatle Island, still remains uninhabited by humans.
