John Wayne Gets Gift Of Taborcillo Island In Panama
In 1964, when conflict over the Panama Canal arose between the Republican Party and Panamanians, John Wayne supported the Panamanians and got them complete control over the Panama Canal. The leader of Panama, Omar Torrijos, gave him Taborcillio island as a gift for what he did for Panama. Since then, this island has been known as John Wayne Island.
However, now it’s owned by Austrian businessman Ralph Hubner, who has converted it into a resort paradise. It includes a theme park and hotel with 25 guest rooms. But make sure you have travel insurance if you want to visit the island.
