Never Before Seen Color Photos of The Titanic

Fast & Furious

The heart of the RMS Titanic was the engine room, and it had to be watched over by a lot of laborers. Sources say that 325 of the crew members were working in the engine department. The ship could reach a 23-knot top speed, which is about 26 miles per hour.

At that time, most people considered that kind of speed to be impressive, most notably because the Titanic was massive. Today, it’s an entirely different story because 23 knots is slow already. Technology is the main reason why modern ships can achieve even higher speeds today.

You Get What You Pay For

Everyone who boarded the RMS Titanic thought they were going to have the time of their life since the idea of getting on a large ship was such a dream come true at that time. In the Titanic movie, they were able to do a great job of showing how life on the ship was.

Those who had money stayed in the first-class area, which promised the most lavish amenities possible. Those who were less fortunate stayed on another end of the Titanic, and couldn’t call their trip a 5-star vacation. One thing all passengers enjoyed whatever class they were in was the gorgeous ocean views.

Lining Up to Say Farewell

The Titanic’s maiden voyage, or the day it began its journey, happened on April 10, 1912. Many people didn’t get to land a ticket for the ship, so they just watched from the docks. Many people waived goodbye to their family and friends, and they were shouting “farewell.”

At that time, their goodbyes filled with positivity since they all expected to see them again after the trip. What these hundreds of people on the dock didn’t realize is that it was going to be their final farewell already. They didn’t foresee the Titanic to become one of the most infamous ships in history.

Monster Propellers

Since the Titanic was huge, 882 feet 9 inches to be exact, it was a given that it needed massive propellers. The photo above shows you just how huge they were next to humans. The two side propellers were 7.2m in diameter while the center one was 5.2m.

These propellers were the biggest ones in history, and even the cruise ships in our modern-day don’t have propellers this big. The engineers who worked on the Titanic wanted it to be powerful and had the vision of it getting talked about in history books.

It Would’ve Trended On Twitter

The Titanic was such a hot topic back then, and if it got built today, we’re sure it would be all over the internet. Every single journalist from around the world back then was talking about the ship, and everyone wanted to secure a ticket of their own.

Having a ticket for the Titanic was something that would show everyone that a person possessed an impressive fortune in the bank. During that time, many people wanted to show that they were wealthy and could buy anything. No one had a clue that the same ticket everyone wanted was to be a one-way ticket to their demise.

Horses Did The Transporting

Building the Titanic was far from easy, and sources say around three thousand workers shed blood, sweat, and tears to bring the ship to life. Back then, they didn’t have all the advanced machinery that made tasks like transporting parts easy.

The anchor of the ship almost 16 tons, and since there were no big cars or trucks at that time, they had to make use of horses. One horse didn’t do the job, for they had to use twenty horses to transport the anchor from the Netherton forge shop to the railway station in Dudley. It then traveled to Fleetwood by rail, until finally getting to Belfast via ship.

The Day Has Finally Arrived

Once the workers finished building the Titanic, all the people with tickets couldn’t wait to go on board and start their journey. Everyone with the first-class tickets got welcomed on the ship in such a lavish manner, and they each got escorts that showed them to their rooms.

You could see that all these wealthy people had the best clothes on, and it’s as if they were all Instagram influencers who were going to take a lot of photos that day. First-class passengers had the upper deck all to themselves, and it looks like that the amount they paid for the tickets were all worth it.

The Man In Charge

Every ship needs a captain, and the RMS Titanic’s was Captain Edward John Smith. He had such a good reputation when it came to taking charge of large ships. Sources say that the salary he had was twice the amount regular ship captains were making at that time.

Photographed above is him posing on what looks like the upper deck of the boat. People considered him to be a celebrity back then, but then it seems like he was about to get even more famous, this time for all the wrong reasons.

A Literal Dreamboat

The Titanic was like a large hotel on the sea, and its makers made sure it would fit a lot of guests and crew members. Reports say that around 2,224 people got to board the Titanic in April 1912. About 325 were the ones who were able to secure first-class tickets.

The people in the third class of the ship was estimated to be around 706. The reason why they went on the Titanic was that they wanted to head to the United States and start a new life. Whatever social class a person was in, everyone saw the Titanic as a chance for a better life.

No One Is Going To Get Hungry

With the number of people that hopped on the ship, it was only right that they did a lot of planning when it came to food and drinks. They were able to store enough food on the ship to last for the whole journey, and it was all stored in the Lower Deck.

Sources say that the fresh eggs the crew had on the ship amounted to about 40,000. Those with money even got to enjoy alcohol like wine and champagne. When it sunk, there were many food and drinks that were not consumed and are probably still on the ocean floor right now.

A Cruise For Honeymooners

Many people went on the Titanic with family or friends, but there were also a good number of them who went with the love of their lives. Sources say that a total of thirteen couples on the ship were on their honeymoon.

Getting on the journey of the Titanic seemed like such a romantic idea at that time. Once they boarded the ship, they received champagne and roses. They all had high hopes that they’re starting a new amazing chapter in their lives, but sadly things were about to come crashing down.

The Trendy Cafe Influencers Would’ve Loved

Cafes have always been something people love, and the Titanic made sure that there was a cafe on the ship. It was called Cafe Parisien, and the place was where all the cool people hung out. The passengers loved sipping on a cup of tea while mingling with people.

It was also like a red carpet event in the area since people had such fancy clothes. Aside from the tea and coffee served there, something everyone loved was the breathtaking view of the Atlantic ocean people had when they were sitting on their tables. The food was as lavish as the place because they served roasted duck, salmon, and oysters.

Living Like Royalty In First-Class

Those who stayed in the first-class area didn’t have to worry about not sleeping well since their rooms were cozy and luxurious. Looking at the furniture today won’t impress you, but people viewed them as top-notch during that era.

The passengers in the first-class got to feel like they were royalty on the ship, and they even had a private deck they could go to any time. These people initially thought that they got the best accommodations, but they later suffered once the ship sunk. Deck B, where the luxury rooms were, reportedly had the least amount of survivors.

Dining Hall Or High School Cafeteria?

If the first-class area deserved a magazine spread, the third-class was the complete opposite. Photographed above was the dining area that somehow resembled a high school cafeteria. Despite the basic interior, the people got to eat good food like baked potatoes and roast beef.

Those in third-class weren’t choosy with anything, so they enjoyed whatever they received. Some might even say third-class guests had more fun than those who were in the first-class area. If you watched the Titanic movie, then you’d know that Rose loved dancing with the third-class passengers.

An Extremely Old-School Gym

Believe it or not, there were already people back then who were crazy about exercising. They didn’t have social media to share photos or videos of their routines, but stepping out in public with a fantastic physique was enough. The photo above shows you how the Titanic’s gym looked.

The equipment back then was different, but it still got the job done. In case you were wondering, the guy wearing white in the photo is using an old-school rowing machine. The other pieces of equipment in the room were an electric horse, electric camel, and cycling machines. Only those in first-class were allowed to make use of the facility.
