Radiotelegraphs Were A Thing

Radiotelegraphs were very popular during the 1910s since there were no flat screens TVs and cable internet yet. Photographed above is the RMS Titanic’s radio operator that worked for a lot of hours daily. He informs people about the ship’s status through a periodic signal. 

When the ship started sinking, the operator sent distress signals right away to get help. He didn’t give up and kept sending out singles until he took his last breath. The Radio Act of 1912 later got established, and it says that radio communications on ships have to run 24/7, and they should have a backup power supply for emergency distress calls.
