Richard Williams (80) – Shreveport
Richard Williams, a retired American tennis coach, has made a lasting impact on the game not only as a diligent instructor but also as the father and coach of two tennis icons, Serena and Venus Williams. His love for the sport was sparked by taking a few lessons from a man named “Old Whiskey” and watching Virginia Ruzici play.
When his daughters were still young, Richard began training and playing with them on public courts. In 1995, he decided to remove them from the tennis academy and focused solely on coaching them himself. His dedication and coaching strategies paid off, as both Serena and Venus went on to have highly successful careers in tennis.
