Mark Spitz – 71 Years

For 36 years, Mark Spitz maintained the impressive achievement of winning seven gold medals in record time in the swimming category. He was the most successful athlete at the 1972 Summer Olympics in Munich, after all, and it only took an equally impressive athlete to break his record.

Surprisingly, after having such a fantastic run at the Munich games, Spitz retired from competition at 22 years of age. This wasn’t the last time he’d be in the water as he attempted a come back at 41 after being offered a million dollars by Bud Greenspan if he qualified for the ‘92 summer Olympics!
