Het paar is in 1993 in de wolken met elkaar in het huwelijk getreden, na enige strubbelingen in de jaren tachtig vanwege Marco’s verhouding. In 1993 kozen ze dan toch uiteindelijk voor elkaar en dat is naar eigen zeggen ook nog steeds het geval. Gezamenlijk delen ze drie kinderen die ondertussen ook hun eigen kinderen hebben.
Zo wist Marco veel te vertellen in de media met betrekking tot z’n leven nu als opa. Als kind heeft hij dat nooit gehad, maar hij is heel blij dat hij als opa een rol kan spelen in het leven van zijn kleinkinderen. Echtgenote Liesbeth is het met hem eens.
