김영철은 희극인으로서의 유명세와 지속적인 저술활동을 통해서 상당한 양의 재산을 축적한 것으로 보인다. 김영철은 2013년 경매를 통해서 청담 현대 2차아파트를 취득한 것으로 알려졌다. 해당 아파트가 위치한 청담동은 대한민국 최고의 부촌으로 알려져있으며, 해당아파트의 현재 거래 가격은 16억원에 육박한다.
